Sarah Marie Mateja was born on September 23, 2004, in Houston, Texas, and went home to be with the Lord on December 4, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Sarah was a junior at the University of Texas in San Antonio where she was in Honors College and studying Biomedical Engineering. She liked her professors and the classes she was taking and hoped to invent medical devices to help people someday. Sarah enjoyed the new friends she made there, and spent time playing flag football, going to UTSA football games, Six Flags, and exploring San Antonio.
Sarah previously attended Cypress Falls High School while simultaneously taking dual credit courses through Lone Star College. She graduated with her high school diploma with honors and her Associate of Science degree in June 2023. In high school, Sarah was a member of the Cypress Falls Sky Dancers drill team for three years and served as the social officer her senior year. Being a Sky Dancer fulfilled Sarah’s lifelong dream of dancing. Before her time at Cypress Falls High School, she attended Truitt Junior High School. In Katy ISD she went to Hutsell Elementary and Katy Junior High where she was successful academically and loved by her classmates and teachers. Her artwork was featured in several art shows in Cypress Fairbanks ISD and Katy ISD. She also enjoyed swimming on summer swim teams with the Katy Tigers and Hearthstone Heatwaves.
Sarah was smart, beautiful, creative, giving, and lit up the room. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the beach, and loved photography. She loved creating and tending to her succulent garden. She was not only smart in science and mathematics but also had a creative side and enjoyed creating art, doing craft projects, and growing plants. She had a giving heart and loved helping others. She was taken from us far too soon.
Sarah was preceded in death by her Grandfather Frank Mateja, Grandmother Laverne Griffin, Grandfather Mark Fajkus, and Grandmother Janet Lee.
Sarah is survived by her Father, Chris (Alicia) Mateja, Mother Tammy (John) Jarrett, Sister, Aster (Ryan) Miller, Sister Elizabeth Mateja, Grandmother Alice Fajkus, Aunt Theresa Adkins, Aunt Terri (Scott) Yeates, Aunt Traci Fajkus, Cousin Daunte Ruvalcaba, Victoria Ruvalcaba, Clayton Yeates, Jill Yeates, and Ben Yeates, and many extended family and friends.
