Rosetta, born May 15, 1940, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024. She was the cherished daughter of Melvin Dewey Shelton Sr. and Carrie Evelyn Bone and spent her childhood in Oklahoma City, Galveston, and Texas City, Texas.
A proud graduate of Texas City High School, Rosetta enjoyed a fulfilling career that included roles as a dental assistant, office manager, and co-owner of an engineering consulting company. Known for her vibrant spirit, she was especially celebrated for her exceptional cooking and love of singing.
On June 28, 1974, she married her soulmate, Homer Eugene Thornhill Jr. Their marriage was filled with joy and companionship until his passing on October 22, 2016. Their deep love for one another was evident to all who knew them.
Rosetta had a profound love for animals, caring for many throughout her life. From her childhood dog, Trixie, to a pet skunk named Thumper, her East Texas home was filled with dogs, squirrels, and horses, all of whom she adored.
Her passion for singing shone brightly, and she enjoyed performing with her sister, LaSetta, who was her closest friend and confidante. Together, they dubbed themselves "Thelma and Louise," with Rosetta as the quieter "Thelma" and LaSetta as the outspoken "Louise." Their laughter and bond were a testament to their deep connection. They were also known as "The Leilani Sisters," based on the song "Sweet Leilani" by Bing Crosby, and they performed together at locations in Galveston and Texas City. Rosetta was a constant source of support and happiness, always putting family first. Whether it was gathering for the holidays, cooking her family a meal or simply enjoying quiet moments together, her love knew no bounds. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family.
Rosetta is preceded in death by her father, Melvin D. Shelton Sr.; her mother, Carrie E. Bone; her husband, Homer E. Thornhill Jr.; her sister, LaSetta Mae Heitfeld; and her brother, Melvin Dewey Shelton Jr.
She is survived by her son, Elbert Clinton Howard Jr. and wife Kimberly Dawn Howard; her son, Bradley Scott Howard and wife Barbara Hahn Howard; and her daughter, Traci Lynn Terrall. She leaves behind a loving legacy of grandchildren: Brandon Scott Howard, Bryna Rae Hayth, Bevyn Ruth Howard, Meredith Ann Saturnino, and Sarah Katherine Bardales, along with great-grandchildren Loren James Hayth, Whitley Ford Hayth, and Baby Boy Howard!
A beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Rosetta will be remembered for her warmth, love, and the joy she brought to those around her.
Rosetta will be inurned at St. John The Divine Episcopal Church In Houston,Texas.
