Philip was born June 2, 1945 in Kaohsiung Hsien, Taiwan, the third child and first son of Tung-Fa and Run (Wu) Huang. Upon completion of high school, Philip attended National Taiwan University, graduating in 1967 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After his one year of military service in the Air Force, one year working for Air Asia as an aircraft maintenance engineer, and one year as a teaching assistant at National Taiwan University, he then moved abroad to the United States to pursue his graduate studies, obtaining his Master's of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1972. That same year, Philip married the love of his life, Judith Mei-lie Lien. Upon completion of his studies, Philip and Judith remained in the United States to raise their family, eventually becoming naturalized U.S. citizens. Philip enjoyed a fulfilling career, which took him from Cincinnati, Ohio to Birmingham, Alabama, and finally to Houston, Texas in 1981. His specialties included designing train cars for Ortner and Pullman Standard and designing oil well head equipment for Derrick International, FMC, Ingram Cactus, Cameron, and finally Wood Group, from which he retired in 2014. Philip loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed traveling, watching sports, tinkering, being in the outdoors, laughing, singing karaoke, and eating butter pecan ice cream.
Philip is survived by his loving wife, Judith; son Edwin (Eddie) Huang and wife Traci Smith-Huang; daughter Christina Tan and husband Jason Tan; grandsons Connor Ashby and Alexander Huang; granddaughters Kylie Tan and Leah Tan; sisters Chao-Mei Huang, Juan-Mei Huang, and Ming-Mei Huang; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Ho-Ming Huang.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center for the excellent care given to Philip during his illness.
A private memorial service was held for the immediate family on Saturday, September 5, 2020.
