Martha E. Martinez Pousson, age 76 of Sulphur, Louisiana, sadly passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, following a battle with cancer. Martha was at peace and surrounded by her loved ones at her time of passing. Martha was born in Monterrey, Mexico on January 29, 1947, to Felisa and Israel Martinez. Martha was the oldest of four and the only daughter to Felisa and Israel. Martha graduated with a degree in English, and Administrative Science . Martha married in 1972 and had three children. After moving to Louisiana from Mexico, she became a naturalized citizen and was employed as a Spanish teacher at Our Lady Catholic School, until her retirement in 2013.
Martha had many hobbies, but her passion above all else was gardening. Her home looked like a tropical paradise and her vegetable garden was beyond comparison. Martha was not only a great gardener but was an amazing cook. Martha insisted on using the freshest vegetables, from her garden. Neighbors, friends, and family loved when Martha would bring food over because everyone knew it would be both delicious and abundant. Martha was proud of her Mexican Heritage and loved to teach anyone and everyone how to cook traditional Spanish meals, including her grandchildren. Martha also enjoyed traveling and over the course of her life, she was able to travel all over North and Central America. Her travel allowed for an endless amount of experiences, and stories to share with friends and family. Martha had the honor to participate in many mission trips, with the church, and was the lead translator between the volunteers and the local community. Martha never met a stranger; it was always a future lifelong friend. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents Israel and Felisa Martinez of Monterrey, Mexico. She is survived by her three children; daughter, Kristy and husband Darin Guidry of Katy, Texas; estranged son, Eric and wife Cecelia Pousson; daughter, Karla and husband Jason Vaughn of The Woodlands, Texas; eight grandchildren, Morgan O'Brien, Julia Folse, Chandler Pousson, Lane O’Brien, Kiera Pousson, Aiden Pousson, Madison Guidry and Grayson Guidry; great-grandchildren, Luxyn O'Brien and Salem Folse; and three brothers, Jose' and wife Elsa Martinez of Monterrey, Mexico, Felipe Martinez of Sulphur, Louisiana, Serigo Martinez of San Nicolás de los Garza, Mexico; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation in memory of Martha E. Martinez Pousson will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 4 – 8 pm at Katy Funeral Home, 23350 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77494; Mass of Christian burial will be on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 12 pm at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, 1530 Norwalk Dr., Katy, Texas 77450. Father Tom Lam will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy., Houston, Texas 77079
