Karen Ann Genovese, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away on Saturday, July 2nd, 2016, following a lifelong battle with heart complications. Karen was the first child and only daughter born to William (Bill) Roberson and Laura Seaton on January 11, 1956, in Shreveport, LA. She became a proud older sister to Ronald and David Roberson. Her father Bill later married Pauline, and Karen gained two new sisters, Rachel & Annie, and a brother Mario.
The love she had for her family was contagious and felt by all.
Karen’s heart grew, even more, when she gave birth to her first son, Eric Harrison, on February 15, 1975. Karen met her husband Thomas Hank Genovese in 1979. The two became inseparable and quickly fell in love, marrying on November 18, 1979. Although she already had a large, loving family, Karen fully embraced Thomas’s family becoming extremely close with his mother Ophelia and sister Angie. In the next few years, Karen’s love expanded when she gave birth to Jason Genovese on December 4, 1980, and David Genovese on March 11, 1983. Her world revolved around her children and her husband.
She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother, who also had high ambitions. She worked diligently to work and go to college graduating from the University of Houston-Clear Lake with a degree in Human Resources. In addition to her persistent efforts to better herself, she vigorously cared for her family. She was her children’s biggest cheerleader and supported each of their passions and interests in various sports and activities, always being a constant, positive, presence in their lives. On top of being an amazing homemaker and professional, she was also very dedicated to God and her church. She was a tireless volunteer whether it be at church events, school, and sports events, or for any cause that touched her heart. As a selfless giver, she elected to be an organ donor after death to continue helping others.
Although Karen had many titles, her most beloved title was being a Nana to Brendan, Olivia, Chloe, and Tucker. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, as they were the light of her life. She especially loved her “girl days” with Olivia and Chloe, where they made cookies, watched movies or played games. Watching each of her grandchildren grow and learn made her extremely proud. Karen also had a love for the fine arts. She was a season ticket holder to the ballet, and while she loved seeing all of the new productions, her favorite year after year was The Nutcracker. She was so excited to be able to share that love with her family and friends. This past December she was able to take her granddaughters Olivia and Chloe to the Nutcracker for the first time and was elated with their enjoyment. Family and friends will miss her dearly.
