Joseph Russell “Joe” Richard, 88, of Houston, Texas, passed away, Friday, August 13, 2021 at Caydance Assisted Living. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on September 5, 1932 to Lorane Nuggent and Alpha Richard, the middle of five boys. They later moved back to Elton, Louisiana where he grew up.
Joe was a Korean War Air Force Veteran from June 1951 – June 1955. He met his wife Ingeborg “Inge” Ellmann while stationed in Germany where they were married in 1954 and he brought her back to America to be his wife for 66 years. Joe was a mechanical engineer who started his career with Prescolite in Richmond, California, later working for the same company in El Dorado, Arkansas and then on to Houston Tool & Die Cast Co. in Houston, Texas where he retired as vice president. His passion was sports….he particularly loved basketball and could be found watching and cheering on his favorite teams. Go Rockets! He was the pillar of our family, he was loving, humorous, supportive, reliable, hardworking and a person of great integrity. We will always remember your good heart. We love you “Papa Joe”!
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bill Richard, Lee Richard, Frank Richard and son Russell Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Inge Richard; brother, Ray Richard and wife Marge; daughter, Randi Ragsdale and husband Kerry; four grandchildren, Julie Fanning and husband Kyle, Jason Cornell, Kendall Richard and wife Valerie, Alesha Sauer and husband Daniel; eight great grandchildren, Layden Palomo, McKala Cornell, Sadie Cornell, Kaylin Moore, Isla Fanning, Violet Richard, Wyatt Richard, and Lexi Sauer. Also, soon to be born Luke Sauer!
