Tanya Harrison's memories of Gail Bashinski:

I had my son Christopher before I was married. My fiancé, Gary, was in the Army. When Christopher was three months old, we went to get married and needed my Mom to sign the papers. We went to the Justice of the Peace in Centerville, Texas.  As we were walking in to City Hall, we noticed a gentleman dressed in fishing waders with a hat full of hooks. He was exiting the building. We got to the Justice of the Peace office and explained to his secretary that we were getting married. She told us that the man going fishing is who we are looking for, and that we'd better catch him. We ran after him and explained everything. He agreed to return and marry us. As we were saying our vows, the phone rang. He answered it and began to make a list of groceries for his wife, as he did; he repeated aloud “milk, bread…” Gary and I began to laugh at this ridiculousness. Our laughing made Mom angry because she didn't think that we were taking this seriously. She held Christopher to remind us that this was a serious moment, and we needed to treat it that way.

When I was in the 7th grade, my sister Trish was in high school and was only taking half-day classes. Mom was letting her drive the Mustang to school every day. I would go to classes until right before Trish would get out of school. I would then skip with her; we'd then go joy-riding. One day I was waiting in the parking lot for Trish, smoking a cigarette. The principal crept up on me; I tried to hide and he caught me trying to crawl underneath the car. He pulled me out and took me into the high school to inform my Mom, however, before he called her, he proceeded to lecture me on my filthy habit of smoking with: “What boy would want to kiss you with a mouth full of smoke?”  He then informed my Mom, and my school, who then proceeded to fine my Mom $500.00. My Mom grounded me for life; she then forgot about it two weeks later.

When I was in the 6th Grade, I really wanted a stereo. She told me if I made straight “A's,” she would get it for me. I worked really hard to pull it off, until the end of the school year. Some friends and I decided to play “Spin the Pencil.” The teacher walked in on me kissing the boy the pencil landed on. My “A” in conduct turned to a “C.” It had to be all “A's.” She bought the stereo for herself and kept it in her room. I was so mad, but it taught me a lesson that I will never forget. After I grew up, we would laugh about it.

My Mom was fun loving and enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She loved it when we would play poker, and she usually won. Once we went to Vegas and she found a machine that she wanted to play on. I moved a couple of rows over and sat down to a machine. A few minutes went by and I began to hear Mom yelling and laughing. By the time I got to her, a crowd had formed around her to see what she had won. I pushed my way through the crowd to get to her. I asked her how much she had won and she said $20.00. That was Mom, she was happy to win even when it was a small amount. She loved to play pool and would shake her butt in front of the pocket when it was your turn, to make you miss the shot. She loved with her whole heart and would do anything to help people. She took care of elderly friends that needed help. She loved it when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren came over to visit, which was quite often. She will be missed more than I can express.

Joy McMahan's memories of Gail Bashinski:
When Gail was about twelve or thirteen years old, she asked her Dad for a guitar. Of course, he bought it for her. Gail had a real musical talent, and had a beautiful voice. She found out about an amateur contest they were having at the Coliseum in Houston, Texas. Aunt Dot took her to the Coliseum. Gail played Hank Williams' “Your Cheating Heart” and won a chance to perform on Channel 8 for the Tommy Sands Show in 1954 in front of a live audience.


 Words can't express how much you truly mean to me. You have always had a warm smile that has touched my heart. You knew how to get a laugh out of others. You would pour your love upon us all. You would always give me loving advice that I still hold within my heart. You have inspired me to never give up and to move forward in life. You are the strongest woman that I have ever known. You are very sincere, compassionate and loyal to all around you. You were carefree, outgoing, spontaneous and most of all a (fire cracker). Your Great Grand children adored you. They loved you with all their hearts and souls. You mean the world to them. We have had many unforgettable moments with you, so precious and pure. You are so very special to me , Grandma Gail !!!! I love you more than you may ever know. You have always held a special place in my heart. I know your in Heaven smiling down on us all. You are one of God's angels protecting us from harm. Every time I look upon the sky whether it's day or starry night, I will think of you, tell you I love you, and ill see you in Heaven. Grandma Gail, you will never be forgotten, you will always be in my thoughts, in my memories, and forever in my heart. I love you Grandma Gail always and forever !!!!

So sorry for your loss Tanya. I know she is so loved, will be missed by all and I know her heart is full from the love and life she had with her family and so many friends over all her years. She was a sweet little lady to me. Prayers for you and your entire family.

Gail you was a 1 of a kind  woman. You was always there for everyone when I was around you. It didn't matter what they needed or wanted, you made sure they got it. I never met your mother Tanya but the stories you would tell me of her were the funniest. I know she was your everything and she still will be! She will be with you in your heart forever! Ms. Gail you have one of the most caring daughters who will also do anything and everything for anyone! Wow there is sooo much to say, nothing but good and funny times, I remember when me and nico and aunt t where shopping and you called and left us a voicemail to bring you a #1 NO onions and cheese and it better be from Burger King:) lol, or the time we were playing pool and you had to rub your butt on the pool table corner because that was good luck. And when you tripped on the carpet under the pool table and I caught you with my feet but I got whacked in the head with your pool stick and we all died laughing....Or what about the ADULT strawberry milk:) and all the times you whooped us in poker. never will I forget all the good memories we had. I love and miss you sooo much.

Such a beautiful person I remember the times we would go with her to all the places that she took pictures we had so much fun she was like a second mom  God got another angel till we see each other again RIP you will be missed !

You had a laugh and stories that could bring a smile to anyone's face. I will forever cherish those happy memories of when we were able to spend time with you. Sending love and prayers your way up in heaven. You will be missed so much.

Grandma Gail, 

You are the joy to every gathering. I will never forget the day you wanted to "teach" me how to play poker. Everything was going fine for the first 5 minutes, and then you some how had all of my money! Your laugh was amazing; you could hear it from any where in the house. You could instantly light up anybody's day. You will be sorely missed, but we know that you are watching over us from up above; and as long as I am here, I will watch over Aunt T for you! I know you and Trish are having an amazing time together right now. Just know we all love you and will never forget the joy you brought to our lives.

Every mother should be so lucky to have children that will care for them in their later days, with love and attention...you were one blessed momma with Tanya by your side! Now you are walking on those streets of gold and dancing with the angels....you will be missed

Grandma I will never forget the times we shared .. I am so blessed to have had the chance to have u in my life.. There r so many memories of the fun and laughter that always filled the room when u were in it.. Losing u has been so hard but I know u r looking down on us and will forever be in our hearts.. Oh my sweet Momma, I can't say how much I will miss you! You were so fun loving and had the most incredible laugh. You were giving and would do anything to help people. I pray that you are with Trish, Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Charles and ya'll are playing poker and having a party! I love you with all my heart and I learned that from you. You loved your family ferociously and would protect us at all cost. I would say RIP but I know better, you will be to busy singing and bringing joy and laughter in heaven to rest. 
Until we are together again I will hold you close to my heart in my memories.
