Elizabeth "Betty" Marie Coombs Phillips, 82, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 29, 1942, in Sewickley, PA, Betty was a beacon of love, faith, and kindness to all who knew her.
Betty never met a stranger—her warmth and infectious smile made everyone feel like family. A fierce prayer warrior and woman of deep faith, she dedicated her life to serving others and lifting up her loved ones in prayer. Betty’s heart for ministry was evident in her work with International Treasure House Ministries, which she helped found and served with for 27 years. Through this work, she touched countless lives, offering hope, love, and support to those in need.
A passionate world traveler and cruise enthusiast, Betty found joy in exploring the globe, always making memories and friends wherever she went. On November 5, 1960, she married the love of her life, Garry (Nick) ONeal Phillips, after meeting him when she was just 15 and he was 17. Their love story spanned more than six decades, full of joy, devotion, and shared adventures. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Cynthia Gaither, Steve Phillips, Julie Pickett, and Jennifer Lawrence.
Betty was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Chelsea Mongole, Michael Gaither, Nicholas Gaither, Serenity Anne Gaither, Jessica Phillips, Samuel Phillips, Hannah Tejada, Emily Phillips, Holly Gage, Whitney Pickett, Maryu Pickett, Tiffany Pickett, and Jonathan Lawrence. Her legacy continues through her three great-grandchildren: Sage Mongole, Declan Mongole, and Sophia Gaither.
In addition to her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Betty is survived by her two sisters, Cathy Hoover and Peggy Neal. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wiliam Ronald Coombs, who passed away in 2022.
She is also survived by her international “adopted” daughters, Guylaine Porte and Andrea Dias Nowak, and her Romanian and Kenyan grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Betty’s journey was one of love, faith, adventure, and service. Her radiant spirit, unwavering compassion, and boundless generosity will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who were blessed to know her.
