Edward S. Gardner, Jr, 86, (Ted) passed away of natural causes on December 7, 2020 in Katy, TX. Born April 5, 1934, in Springfield, MA to Edward and Grace (Crowley) Gardner, Ted grew up in Thompsonville CT and graduated from the University of CT with a BS in Electrical Engineering and then later earning his Masters in Business Administration.
In 1957 he was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve and served as an inspector of ordinance. While living in Thompsonville, Ted worked for the Western Massachusetts Electric company in Springfield MA and that is where he met his wife Janet. He moved to Lanesborough MA and worked for the same company in Pittsfield MA through 1980 and later the parent company Northeast Utilities in Meridan CT as Director of Transmission and Distribution. While in Lanesborough, his children remember often going out with him at all-hours during many snowstorms to perform initial power-outage investigations and power-restoration coordination. He was an avid railroad aficionado, with a large model railroad setup and a vast collection of Lionel trains.
His biggest love was spending time with his family. In addition to yearly vacations with his extended family in York Beach ME, he loved Disney and made Disney family vacations a regular event. He was an honest man who taught his children the true meaning of right and wrong.
Ted will be missed by his three children: Stuart Gardner, of Raynham MA; Scott Gardner and wife, Jeanine, of Katy TX; and Kellie Coonz, of Katy TX; his five grandchildren: Daniel, Cody, Dylan, Sean, and Connor; and sisters Mary Lou Millar and husband James of CT, and Elizabeth Forro and husband John, of CT. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janet in January of 2020.
