Ann Dickie

Ann Dickie, 87, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2016, at Cinco Ranch Alzheimer’s Care Unit where she had resided for the past five months. She was surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff of Resolutions Hospice.

Ann was born March 15, 1929 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ida Bilbo Young and Colonel Frank Walker Young, M.D. Ann was the youngest of three daughters and during her school years the family traveled extensively across the United States. The family would eventually make their home in San Antonio, Texas, and here Ann attended Trinity University where she met her first husband, James L. (Jim) Sanders, Jr. Ann and Jim had two children, James Robert Sanders and Jo Ann Sanders. In the late 1950s the family moved to Houston where Jim was a prominent businessman and owned Jim Sanders Ford.

Ann became a widow in 1970 and with both children grown and away from home she decided to take a part time job at O’Neal Anderson Interiors. Here Ann found the perfect job which combined her love of beautiful things with home décor.

Ann lived in San Diego, California and La Jolla, California for a brief time enjoying entertaining, boating, and extensive travel to such places as China, Alaska, Japan and the Caribbean. Ann loved to travel and meet new people.

Upon returning to Texas mutual friends introduced her to Howard Dickie. Ann and Howard married in 1986 and Ann would open her own company, Park Avenue Gifts, Flowers & Coiffures located in Sugar Land, Texas. Ann operated this store with her partners for several years and upon its sale, moved to Conroe to be closer to Howard’s ranch in Centerville, Texas. During this time Ann worked as a Bridal Consultant at Dillard’s assisting brides in the selection of china, crystal and home furnishings for their new life.

Howard had always dreamed on living on the ranch full time so he and Ann set out to restore the family home to its original beauty and then moved there full time. Ann’s love of entertaining made the ranch the center of many family get- togethers and holiday celebrations. These were probably some of the happiest times in Ann’s life when she was surrounded by family and friends.

In 2003 Ann and Howard moved back to Missouri City to be close to family and became residents of Sienna Plantation. Ann once again found herself entertaining family and friends, she participated in several charitable organizations, played neighborhood Bunco, and attended Sunday School and Church at Sugar Land Baptist Church until her health would no longer allow.

Ann is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Howard Dickie, her daughter and son in law, Jo Ann and Ron Stevens, her step daughter and son in law, Kim and David Alvey, Grandchildren: Lisa Talley (David), David Stevens, Ronda Husselman (Jason), Brian Stevens, Michelle Crouch, James Robert Sanders, Jr. (Kara), Kaitlyn Ontiveros (Josue), Cristal Harris (Tim), Brittanie Doaks (Adrian), Ashley Sherley, Joseph Sherley, Lauren Davis (Wes), and Samantha Alvey as well as 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Ida Bilbro Young and Colonel Frank Walker Young, M. D.; her two sisters, Martha Claire Randall (Mike) and Alma Carter (Cliff): as well as her son, James Robert Sanders and step-daughter, Donna Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers include Ron Stevens, David Stevens, Brian Stevens, Jason Husselman, David Talley and James Robert Sanders.

Graveside Services for Ann Dickie will be held Saturday, July 9, at 10:00 AM at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston TX 77079. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 6-8 PM at Katy Funeral Home located at 23350 Kingsland Blvd., Katy, Texas 77494.
