Born in Kansas City on a Christmas Day, Wilma L. Fields was called to her heavenly home on April 3, 2012. Wilma was a private and fiercely independent woman whose strength, tenacity and love was a model to all those who had the good fortune of knowing her. Surviving are beloved husband and best friend, Harold; daughter, Cynthia Denton, of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Barbara Wood (Dale), of Stilwell, Kansas; and son, Philip (Abbey), of Westwood, Kansas. She was Nana to five grandsons: Patrick Denton (Maggie), Scott Wood (Brooke), Tim Wood (Jillian), Peter Fields, and Theodore Fields. She was also a Great Nana to five. Preceding her in death were her parents, James E. and Tressie Hogg; infant brother, James Edward; and son-in-law, Michael Denton. According to Wilma's wishes, services will be private with no visitation. If anyone desires to make a donation, please consider the American Heart Association , Alzheimer's Association , or the March of Dimes. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Luke's Heart Institute and wound care units for their compassionate and exemplary care. I would rather have a little rose From the garden of a friend Than have the choicest flowers When my stay on earth shall end. I would rather have the kindest words And a smile that I can see Than flattery when my heart is still And this life ceased to be. I would rather have a loving smile From the friends I know are true Than tears shed around my casket When the world I bid adieu. (Author unknown) "Love you all very much. You will never know how much joy you have brought to my life." Condolences may be offered at www.mtmoriah-freeman.com. Arrangements under the direction of Mount Moriah and Freeman Funeral Home in Kansas City, MO.
