William Joseph Gunter, 68, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away at home on Saturday, October 30, 2011, after a brave fight with ALS. His family was by his side. Bill was born in Kansas City, MO, to George and Frances Gunter who preceded him in death. He was a graduate from Rockhurst College and Rockhurst Executive Fellows program. He started his career at United Utilities as an internal auditor and retired after 34 years as CFO, Sprint PCS.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was always there for his family and friends and was the most honest man you would ever meet.
Bill is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary and four children; William Joseph (the 2nd), his wife Sandra and their son, Gus; James and his partner Greg Lawrence; Jeremy and his wife Ashley and their daughters, Lauren and Zoey; and Sarah and her husband, Jesse Johnson. He is also survived by five brothers and four sisters; Jerry, Mike, David, Riley, Anthony, Mary Ann Holtzman, Alice Bergfolk, Theresa Sullivan, and Gena Garcia. Bill is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 3rd, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 4th, 10:00 a.m., at Church of the Nativity, 3800 West 119th, Leawood, KS, with burial following in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A reception will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Hallbrook Country Club.
