Virginia Hernandez Martinez

She was born July 5, 1931 in Holiday, Kansas to the late Eligio and Gregoria Sanchez Hernandez. She grew up in Holiday, Kansas where at a young age went to work at Swift Packing Company and then went to work on the line at Bendix Corporation where she retired after many years.

Virginia took pleasure in traveling with her Bendix girlfriends all over the United States. Her favorite trip was Las Vegas. She also looked forward to the annual craft shows that she would go to with her daughters. Her love for her family was evident in her smile especially around her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She valued her time spent at family gatherings in particular July 4th as we also celebrated her birthday with cake and fireworks.

She is preceded in death by her husband Paul Martinez and son Eligio (Leo) Martinez. Virginia was the last of ten siblings; six brothers, Marion, Joe, Alex, John, Manuel and Nick Hernandez and three sisters Jovita Martinez, Linda Hernandez and Mary Rojas.

Virginia is survived by her five children, Gloria and husband Ron Howell of Jenks, OK, Santos and wife Nina Rios of Lee's Summit, MO, Elizabeth and husband Dennis Carver of Blue Springs, MO, Abigail Diane Martinez of Kansas City, MO and Marion Martinez of Kansa City, MO. Brother-in-law, Paul Rojas of Kansas City, MO. Her grandchildren, Paul and wife Julia Howell of Tulsa, OK, Victor and wife Sara Howell of Fort Meyers, FL, Gianna Alston of Lee's Summit, MO, Michael and wife Jenny Stringer of Lee's Summit, MO, Daniel and Wife Rachel of Blue Springs, MO, Alisha and husband Joe Black Hayes of Boosier, LA, Nicholas Martinez of Kansas City, MO, Joseph Martinez of Los Angeles, CA, Virginia Raspberry of Kansas City, MO, Josh Martinez of Boise, ID, Hannah Nora Martinez of Lincoln, NE, Tony Rios of Belton, MO and Tiffany and husband Rafael Pena of Independence, MO. Virginia is also survived by 18 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and God's Children.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am Friday, January 6, 2023, St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terr., Kansas City, MO 64133. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64138.
