Thomas "Tom" F. McCormick

Tom was born on February 8th, 1947, to Florence & John Vincent McCormick, in Kansas City. Tom was born into a large Irish-Catholic family, as one of seven children and also a twin (Tim McCormick).

Tom attended Center High School, and met the love of his life, Cynthia Heisterberg, while she attended Southwest High School. He proudly served as an MP in the United States Army in Korea, during the Vietnam War. Not long after returning stateside, he and Cindy married on April 25, 1970. Tom enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, playing pool, watching the Chiefs and riding dirt bikes with his son, brothers and nephews until the age of 60! He was a loving husband, father, friend, uncle and grandfather. He was an animal lover, and especially loved dogs; he loved to spoil his granddogs with food even though he was told many times not to, and would deny having done so even when caught red-handed. He most likely inherited his love of animals from his mother, Florence, who lovingly fed the neighborhood squirrels with peanuts (that he supplied) every week.

After retiring from his career as a Produce Manager, he enjoyed frequent breakfast/lunch dates with his eldest grandson, helping his wife watch his younger grandchildren during the week, often sneaking them McDonalds much to his son’s chagrin, and “talking” politics with his twin brother, Tim. Tom was a jokester, enjoyed music and loved to cut a rug, even dropping into the splits on the dance floor at his son’s wedding.

Tom is preceded in death, by his wife of nearly 50 years, Cynthia McCormick, his parents, Florence & John Vincent McCormick, his in-laws, Bob & Georgia Heisterberg, his sister-in-law, Cheryl McCormick and nephew, Scott Allen. Tom is survived by his daughter, Heidi Monaghan (John), son, Shawn McCormick (Krissy); grandchildren: Kyle Marshall, Kellan & Everly McCormick, and his 3 granddogs; sisters Dee Allen (Clay) & Mary Mallory (Bill) and brothers John McCormick (Rita), Dick McCormick, Tim McCormick and Mike McCormick (Connie), as well as beloved nieces, nephews, sister & brother in laws, and very dear friends.

Due to Covid-19, the family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
