Suzanne was born April 4, 1957, in Washington, D.C., to James V. and Joanne M. Laughlin. The second of four children, Suzanne grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, graduating from Archbishop O’Hara High School and attending college at University of Central Missouri. Suzanne was a professional buyer, and most recently worked for 21 years for the Jackson County Circuit Court, where she was a Senior Purchasing Agent. Through her years at the court, Suzanne earned admiration and respect for her exceptional integrity and dedication to her job and the citizens of Jackson County. When she retired in 2021, she received multiple letters of commendation from the judges she served.
Suzanne embraced life and its adventures with ferocity and joy. She was a lifelong Notre Dame fan, (her father’s alma mater), as well as a passionate Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. She loved nothing more than attending games and cheering for her favorite teams. She also loved to travel, and had enjoyed bucket list trips to Africa, Ireland and England.
A dedicated pet parent to her beloved dog Sammy, Suzanne was also a dedicated and generous daughter, niece, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was fun and funny, with a big smile and loud, infectious laugh that those whose lives she touched will never forget.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, James and Joanne Laughlin. She is survived by her sister Kathleen Laughlin of St. Paul, MN, brothers, James (Mary) Laughlin of Overland Park, KS, and Donald (Sue Ellen) Laughlin of Spartanburg, S.C.; aunt and uncle, Thomas and Sara Ryan of Lee’s Summit, MO, nieces Jennifer (Megan) Laughlin, Allison (Logan) Staib, and nephews Sean (Megan) Laughlin, Ryan (Kate) Laughlin, and Ian Laughlin. She also leaves behind an extensive network of devoted and loving friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Pet Project, 7077 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64132. A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be announced at a later date.
