Shirley Dean (Brasher) Poindexter, 88, of Kansas City, went to be with the Lord, October 11, 2021, surrounded by family. God gained an Amazing Angel as one of his most precious daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, grandmothers and friends who ever lived on this earth. Shirley was born March 20, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri and lived her life in the Kansas City area.
She was an amazing woman of faith and with her charismatic personality she never met a stranger. She will be remembered by many, God only takes the BEST. Her Soul Print was left everywhere she went. She smiled through the good and bad times and never complained. She had an awesome sense of humor and so witty. Her strength has been unbelievable and only achieved by her faith in God.
She was a self-taught proficient piano player (Like Elton John), Loved to read her Bible and Pray everyday, work her Crossword Puzzles (“Lurzles”), cross-stitch, and family has always been her heart strings. She loved to shop and look good.
Graduated from East High School in Kansas City, MO; worked as an Administrative Secretary for many companies including Woolworth’s, Sears, Federal Reserve Bank, and others, retired from D.W Newcomer’s 1998.
She married Edward Rounds in 1951. Was a member of several different churches in her lifetime and was assistant to Evangelist, Mary (Rounds) Trinqual in the 1960’s. She married Earl Kinley Poindexter in 1975 and took on three courageous and protective stepsons. Earl adopted her youngest two daughters, Bonni and Lisa.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Rosemary (Carver) Brasher; husbands, Earl K. Poindexter, Edward J. Rounds; brothers, Doral H. Brasher; sisters, Mary Ruth (Brasher) Radford, Betty K. (Brasher) Creason, Della L. (Brasher) Neville; son, Gary D. Poindexter.
Survivors include her sons, Carroll R. Poindexter, Oklahoma City, OK and Earl ‘Lynn’ (Jina) Poindexter, Oklahoma City, OK; brothers, Lawrence E. (Karen Adams) Brasher, Lee’s Summit, MO and Richard L. Brasher, Pleasant Hill, MO; daughters, Fran G. (Dale) Rumans, Paola, KS, Linda J. Poindexter, Oklahoma City, OK, Brenda L. (Tom Williams) Hulse, Lee’s Summit, MO, Beverly R. Rounds, Kansas City, MO, Bonni A. (Steve) Feller, Lee’s Summit, MO, Lisa M. (Trevor) Curren, Oklahoma City, OK; and 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
