Dear family and friends, it is with the heaviest of heart, but with the peace that surpasses all understanding, that I share with you that our most precious, sweet and gentle son, Samuel Wilkes Lopez, has passed away and joined his beloved Savior.
At approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, July 18th, 2022, he took his own precious life. His sweet, sensitive, and kind soul could no longer take the pain and suffering that came with being on this Earth plane.
The indescribable void and pain of his absence is unfathomable! But so many of you have already shared with us your beautiful prayers, thoughts and words of encouragement, that will help us get through this as a family.
One of his favorite scriptures is Jeremiah 31:3, " I have loved you with an everlasting love, I have drawn you with unfailing kindness" We deeply love our Sammy, and we know he loves us, and now we know he is in the loving arms of his Creator.
Samuel was born on March 27th, 2001 and was welcomed into the presence of Jesus and the Holy Angels on July 18th, 2022. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Wilkes Edwin and Patricia Valarie Booth.
Samuel was entering his senior year as a Finance Major at KU. He had a flair for fashion and could make a burlap sack look chic! While he could be quiet and reserved, he also had an impish, ornery-like sense of humor that would strike when you least expected it. Like any young man, he faced many challenges, but through it all he fervently loved his family, who adored and loved him. His sweetness and tenderness toward his niece and nephews would just melt your heart.
Samuel was, and is, so loved by the surviving members of his family, including his mother, Rebecca Rachel Booth, and his father, Dr. Jesse Lopez, Jr. & Stormyee Edmonson. Sammy is survived by his brothers and sisters: Rachel Anna-Marie & Kenneth Ard, Jesse Joseph Lopez III and Ariel Peck, Ricardo Lopez and Ty Crandell, Abigail Lopez and Chris Crowell, Josiah Lopez and Brittany Wallace, Cooper Lopez, and Austin Hanis. Samuel is also dearly loved and missed by his Grandparents; Jesse and Gertrude Lopez, Sr., in addition to his aunts and uncles; Maria & Scott Burnham, Dominic Lopez, Veronica & James Ginn Hupp, and Sheryl Davis. His surviving cousins include; Scottie & Shaylynn Burnham, Ty Burnham, Ashlee & Mark Hendrix, Elijah & Christian Mejia, and his adorable little niece and nephews: Elysia Ard, Asa Ard, Phoenix Ard, and Grey Lopez.
His loss is also grieved by his extended family; Susan Lopez, Tyler Hanis, Kaitlyn Robinson, Victor Marshall, David Marshall, Valerie Cunningham, Lisa Spencer, Sheri Spencer Delp, Nick Davis, Bobby Spencer, Jay Marshall, Jeff Marshall, Michael Marshall and Shannon Marshall
Thank you for your offering of prayers and support to our family as we wade through this difficult hour in our lives.
A Visitation for Samuel will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, followed by a Celebration of Life from 4:00pm to 5:00p. at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
