Sally was born Sarrah Katherine Krause on November 12, 1937 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to Charles J. and Marie (Schmidtman) Krause.
Sally’s childhood years were spent cherry picking in Sturgeon Bay and ice skating in the winter. By high school, Sally was active in the choir and literary society. She graduated from Westport High in 1955 ready to join the working world with a job at The Dixie Shop in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Sally married Robert M. Toft in 1958 and spent her years in her greatest joy of raising her family and tending to her home. Family vacations were spent at Pomme de terre Lake or Lake of the Ozarks, camping and boating. She was a slalom water skier and enjoyed West Coast Swing dancing with her husband. Family gatherings featured Sally standing at the stove cooking her “famous” tacos for family and friends in Lenexa who “dropped by” at the convenient moment, sometimes cooking upwards of 100 tacos. Sally made her coffee cakes and brownies and distributed them whenever someone had a birthday, was ill, or just “needed one.”
Sally’s greatest love was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and she taught us all the importance of family relationships and compassion. She was a neighborhood Mom to many of her children’s friends. She was loyal and had great love for her many friends with whom she shared in a bit of mischief. Sally was a gentle and kind soul and had a forgiving nature.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert; son, Chip; brother, Chuck; and nephew, Little Chuck. Sally is survived by her daughter, Shelly and husband Greg Cook; son, Douglas Toft; her grandchildren, Amanda and husband Wade Murphy, Eric Toft, and Halley Toft; and great grandchildren, Jadyn, Jared, Jacob, Sophie, and Kinsey. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Merry Becker and Nancy Wymore, along with seven nieces and nephews.
