He was born on February 25, 1943 to Merle and Erma Keilig in Gibbon, Nebraska and grew up on a farm in the Ravenna, Nebraska area. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran church, most recently Peace Lutheran in south Kansas City and Bethlehem Lutheran in Raymore, where he enjoyed serving in multiple capacities, most especially as an usher greeting and interacting with everyone.

He marshaled at Creekmoor Golf Club for 11 years and was an avid golfer who played in several golf leagues and whenever he could. He was so positive and encouraging to all and he never knew a stranger. He will be missed!
