Robert Arthur Murphy Sr.

Robert Arthur Murphy Sr. passed peacefully on October 2, 2024, at Kansas City Hospice House after a brief illness, leaving multiple family members and friends to cherish the memories that have been created with him over the years.

Bob was born May 4th, 1937, to Dorothy Cobb Murphy and Arthur Leroy Murphy in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Wheeler, Father, Arthur Murphy, sister, Marilyn Ebberts, daughter, Pamela Andrews, and son, Robert Murphy, Jr.

Following his graduation from Grandview, Missouri High School, Bob attended Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, where he studied Vocal Music Education. It was at Central Methodist University where he met the love of his life, Kathleen Moore. Following their graduation from Central, they were united in Marriage on August 11, 1962, and began their journey together.

After his college graduation, Bob taught vocal music at Central Methodist University, Plattsburg, MO School District, Hardin, MO School District, and Grandview Missouri School District. Upon learning the fact that “teachers aren’t paid well enough” he began his career as a textbook salesman for school textbooks, which he excelled in for over 35 years.

During his professional career, Bob received a calling and was drawn to the Ministry. While raising a family, and focused on his career, he completed Theology and was Ordained as a Deacon in the Episcopal Church in 1993.

Following his retirement, the man who could not sit still began working for Mt. Moriah, Freeman and Newcomer Funeral Home, where he eventually became a Funeral Director. His compassion and true love of helping people was one of the strongest attributes of this fine man.

Bob was actively involved in the Heart of America Barbershop Chorus, and loved performing and entertaining people. He was active, and performed in multiple productions at The New Theater in Overland Park, KS, and loved being on stage and in the spotlight. A true Royals and Chiefs fanatic, who tried not to miss a game, and if he had a conflict you better believe the games were recorded so he could watch them later.

A man who loved his family, and watching his family grow brought a smile to his face and warmth to his heart. He spoke often, and proudly of his children, grandchildren and over the last three years especially his three great granddaughters. Bob was a true gentleman who cherished every moment he could spend with family, and will be missed tremendously.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years, Kathleen Murphy, son, Michael Murphy (Julie), son in law Russ Andrews (Cindy), 9 grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters, and multiple extended family members.

Wrapped in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father, Bob is whole again, and free of pain. Rest well Bob, we will meet again.
