Robert “Bob” was born in Shullsburg, Wisconsin on August 3, 1935, to Joseph and Mary (McCauley) Lyne. He was raised on a farm where he developed a love and respect for agriculture; and he enjoyed many friends and activities throughout his school years including playing on the high school football team. He graduated from Shullsburg High School and ultimately settled in Janesville, WI. He married and raised three children while progressing in his career, and rose through the ranks to become a Territory Manager for the agricultural division of Amoco Oil (now BP). In 1980, he married Shirley who worked for Amoco in Kansas City, MO. He retired from Amoco after 23 years when his division was acquired, and then worked in similar positions for two other companies in Illinois until he fully retired.
In his retirement years, Bob and Shirley returned to the Kansas City area and lived in homes in Blue Springs, Raymore, and Lee’s Summit. They were active members of their local parishes, the Amoco Retiree Club, and neighborhood activities. Bob loved playing golf, singing, and visiting friends near and far. He was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved his whole family dearly and was an active part of their lives, whether attending family events, sports, music and dance activities, or visiting those in Wisconsin and Tennessee. In the difficult final years, he became affectionately known as “Bobby” at his care center, where he enthusiastically participated in any singing activities and brightened the days of his caregivers with his great sense of humor, friendly smiles, and by always thanking them. And, throughout the last 43 years, Bob loved and cherished Shirley, and took the best care of her that he could all the way to the end of his life.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Lyne. He is survived by his wife Shirley Lyne; children Kim (and Terry) Thomas, Gil Lyne, and Jeff (and Kathy) Lyne; stepchildren Mike (and Sharron) Coulter and Brenda (and Dean) Cherpitel; grandchildren Erin and Emily Thomas, and Jeffrey and Matthew Lyne; step-grandchildren Derek (and Michelle) Coulter, Lindsey (and Ben) Fanning, Adam (and Jamie) Cherpitel, and Whitney Cherpitel; and step-great grandchildren Paxton and Kensley Coulter, Lucy, Michael, Brody, and Charlee Fanning, and Ava, Owen and Ellie Cherpitel. The family would like to thank the devoted staff and volunteers of the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit who provided loving care and support to both Bob and Shirley over the last two years.
