Reva was born on February 3, 1936 in Walthill, Nebraska. As a child she enjoyed many activities including softball, playing cards with family, playing hide and seek or sledding with the neighbor kids. Some of her favorite memories were making her first communion and watching her mother start walking again. Reva was a hard worker and began working a paper route with her brother at the age of seven. She was often found doing odd jobs for neighbors or helping her mother at the local diner.
She attended high school at Heelan Catholic High School in Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating high school she attended secretarial school and began her short career as a secretary. She married the love of her life, William D. (Woody) Meyer on August 18, 1956 and thus began her most important career, homemaker and soon, mother.
During their 64 years of happy married life they raised 7 children, saw 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren born and raised. While raising 7 children Reva was always active in her children’s activities. She was a member of the PTA, a Girl Scout Leader and an active supporter of her children’s swim teams. The family spent many weekends at the Lake of the Ozarks with close family friends, the Wacklys and the Holidays. Reva loved to make sure everyone had a good time and had plenty to eat. She was a great cook and many of her recipes have been passed down to her children.
When asked what made her smile she replied, “Watching my children get awards and do well in school and playing cards with my family”. To say she was a proud mother was an understatement. She was often heard telling everyone that she had seven children that all graduated from college. (We couldn’t have done it without you Mom!)
During their marriage, Reva and Woody moved from Nebraska to Minnesota to Kansas City and then after retiring they moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1989. While living at the Lake of the Ozarks, Reva enjoyed fishing, gardening, quilting and playing cards with the neighbors. She even dusted off her secretarial skills and was the secretary/treasurer for the Big Buffalo Citizens Patrol. In 2016 they returned to Kansas City to be near family.
Reva was preceded in death by her husband William D. (Woody) Meyer, her parents Harlan Lawrence Miles and Ada Marie (Lorenger) Miles, sister Reita Wimer (James), brothers Harlan (Karen) and Jim (Kay), and granddaughter Danielle Nicole Rutledge. She is survived by her children Harlan E. Meyer (Elizabeth), Teresa L. Adams (Greg), Charles L. Meyer (Alana), Linda J. Gilliam, Julia A. Kice (James), Sandra K. Adams (William), Suzanne M. Schlemeier (Mark). She leaves behind 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all the lives she touched.
