Raymond Goffinet

Raymond (Ray) Goffinet, 90, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Research Medical Center on January 4, 2020. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 10, 2020 at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church located at 4101 E. 105th Terrace in Kansas City, MO. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery following the Mass. Visitation will be held at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church on Thursday, January 9, 2020 from 6-8 pm with Rosary at 6 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131 or to Mary’s Call at 12400 Olive, Kansas City, MO 64146.

Ray was born on January 10, 1929 in Kansas City, MO to Frank and Alma Goffinet. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Kapsch, of Olathe, KS; nephew, Jerry Fry of Kansas City, MO; nieces Susan Ward and husband, David, of Richland, WA; Theresa Julkowski and husband, Daniel of Lee’s Summit, MO and Elizabeth Fry of Rio Rancho, NM.

He also leaves two great nieces, Irene and Esthela Julkowski; five great nephews, John Ambrose, Ben Ward, Chris Ward, Matt Ward and Kevin Ward, and six great-great nieces and two great-great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Marion Couch and Alice Goffinet.

He was a graduate of Center High School in 1946. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War in Sendai, Japan.

After the War, Ray’s experience with Logan Moore Lumber Company in 1995 thru 1969 led him to partner with Philip Holtgraves and William Leib to start his own lumber yard company called Construction Materials, Inc. (CMI) in 1970. He currently owned two lumber yards in Gardner and Ottawa, KS and at one time he also owned lumber yards in Spring Hill, Waverly and Wellsville, KS.

He started another organization with Al Moning of Salisbury, MO called Mary’s Call. This was answering Mary’s call to offer prayers, especially the rosary, for peace in the families and the world. A book store in Salisbury, MO was built through his donations to handle the requests for cassette tapes to pray the rosary and the books, statues, and miscellaneous religious items carried later as the organization expanded. Ray continued to operate Mary’s Call in the Kansas City office promoting God the Father’s messages to an Italian nun named Mother Eugenia in 1932 which has the imprimatur from Rome.

Ray was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church for 49 years. He served the community of Timberlake Nursing Home with special services on Sundays and bringing Holy Communion to the residents on Fridays for 15 years. He also enjoyed his quiet hour in Eucharistic Adoration. In September of 2014, he received the medal and certificate from Bishop Finn for the Bishop’s Recognition Award for Outstanding Service to your Parish and the Diocese at a Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City, MO. He had been nominated for this special award by Father Farnan who was pastor at St. Thomas More Catholic Church at the time.

He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and associates at St. Thomas More, Timberlake Nursing Home, CMI, and Mary’s Call.
