Nick was born in Kansas City, Missouri on March 2, 1944. He was the son of Salvatore "Sam" and Rose (DeBlase) Arello. Nick graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1962. Following high school, Nick joined the United States Navy on July 20, 1962 and was honorably discharged on July 19, 1968. After his military service, he joined the Kansas City Police Department where he served for 20 years. During his time on the force he met Ellen Jeanette Horst. They were married on May 28, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri. Nick retired from the police force and started Arello's which was a restaurant, deli and bar. He owned and operated the restaurant for ten years. He returned to law enforcement as a corrections officer at the Jackson County Jail until his final retirement in 2006. He was good with his hands and found enjoyment in fixing things during his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Salvatore. Nick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanette Arello, son, Salvatore "Sal" Arello, daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Menendez and husband, Dave, grandchildren, Kylie, Nick, Bailey, Lacey (Lance), Anna (Adrian), Cara (Charlie) and Eddie, sister, Antoinette Domitz, brother, Joe Arello and wife, Rose and extended family.
A memorial visitation for Nick will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 at 9:30 am followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A committal of ashes with full military honors will take place at Mount Moriah Cemetery South. Following the committal service family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Sand Trap Bar & Grill, 13037 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
