Nancy Lowe Baker died peacefully on November 28, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born January 14, 1925 in Blue Springs, MO to M. Kathryn Saunders and R. Hansel "Spot" Lowe. Growing up, Nancy excelled in dancing, singing solos for church and events, playing high school basketball, being an officer in many school organizations and playing drums in the band. She also worked at Lowe Drug, her father's pharmacy and soda fountain in downtown Blue Springs, mastering the art of malts and sodas. She graduated as valedictorian of her Blue Springs High School class in 1943, and then attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and KU in Lawrence.
On December 2, 1944 Nancy married Jack E. Baker. After the war, she and Jack were transferred to Illinois, California and Oregon before returning to Leawood, Kansas. Wherever she lived, Nancy was involved in community service and her children's activities, all while working full time as an administrator for various doctors’ offices, always helping others. Her interests and talents included being a gourmet cook, gardener, seamstress, knitter, bridge player, singing and most of all loyal friend. She graciously opened her home to family and friends who became like family. When you met her, you immediately counted her as your best friend.
Nancy was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, parents and younger brother, Dick Lowe. She is survived by her son Mike (Susan) Baker, daughter Deb (Wes) Welch, grandchildren, Cole (Janice) Welch, Matthew (Amy) Welch, Meghan (Doug) Dahl, Eran (Megan) Baker, Hannah (Jeff) Salter, Hallie Baker and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear companion, Don Meador.
Visitation will be held December 29, 2018 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church 6401 Wornall Terrace at 12:30pm, followed by a service at 1:00pm. A private graveside service with be at Corinth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Nancy's memory to the American Heart Association, Children's Mercy Hospital, KCMO, or St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
