Being pilots back in the 70's and flying with Mike, is a job I would of payed to do. He was funny, a good pilot/friend and always found humor in in difficult scenarios. I know nobody like him and thanks for enhancing my life. See you at the bar; CHEERS! 

Uncle Mike - the world is a duller, grayer, quieter place now that you and your siblings are gone.  My memories of you, my mom, and your brother teasing my dad mercilessly will make me laugh forever.  Don’t be too hard on old Jim Marsh now.  Love from Betsy

Mikey was the "BIG CASINO"!!!! He Lee Derrough and  I had some great times at New Stanley's Bar!!  When In KC I always enjoyed MIkey.He will be missed.!!!

Mike, who I always called Perk, was the first kid I met in first grade at St. Anns -- the same place his service will occur.  We lived only a quarter mile apart and had adventures together for years until I moved out of the area after high school.   He was my best friend starting at age 6 and even then, lived life to the fullest.  We built tree houses, a gas-powered car, camped, played baseball on the same team where he was a great third baseman known affectionately as "jug butt."  We planted grass 8 hours a day on our hands and knees one summer to earn money that we used to build and fly model planes and later on, real ones.  We built and launched homemade rockets and even a couple of bombs, one of which made so much noise the police showed up, but we were long gone by then.  On a camping trip west of Olathe, we wrapped our arms and legs around a pole a couple of feet from a main rail line and hung on in awe as huge freight trains barreled past at 70 mph.  One night when I stayed over at about age 14, we "borrowed" his sleeping parents' car and drove it all over in the middle of the night.  And later in high school when we could legally drive, spent many Friday and Saturday nights at the old municipal airport watching airliners and visiting the control tower, where we got to know the controllers.  TWA mechanics in the maintenance hangar let us sit in the cockpits of 707s and Constellations with the proviso that we not flip any switches ... and we didn't.  We were teenage airport bums in love with aviation and were treated accordingly.  He was a great friend growing up, funny even as a kid, didn't fear trying to do anything and probably kept me out of trouble more than I deserved.  And although we haven't lived in the same place for decades, I never failed to call him and at least go out to lunch every time I returned to K.C.   What a fantastic friend Perk was.  I will miss him but will never forget the great experiences we had together.   Adios, Mike.  Smooth ride.

I will miss the Mayor, and our chats at Joe D’s.  Both of us pilots, we talked of ferrying aircraft from here to there.  Fair skies Mike!

Wow what to say....how many regattas did you organize and enjoy.  We were young and foolish...and had so much fun thanks to your guidence.    We will miss you and your humor....the mayor is gone...but not forgotten.  Loved you ....Linda (Gent-Rastorfer- Carpenter)

Mike was a man of "Infinite jest" as the Bard says. He was a longtime friend an will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Mayor.

I became acquainted with Michael in 1980 when I began dating my wife, Marilyn,  and her best friend, Michael.  Mike was a fixture in every Friday night get-together and Sunday afternoon dinner.  He would "hold court" every Friday night at (pick one) Elephant Johnnie's,  The Stanley Stand-up,  Joe D's,  and elsewhere.  You could always find Mikey in the middle of a crowd that was laughing continuously and his laugh could be heard above all else.  There will be a giant void where  this large man once was.   He was a constant in our lives,  not one that will be easily filled.   Our condolences to the Perkins family and to all others whose lives were touched by  this larger-than-life gentleman.  He was a friend to everyone and practically everyone knew him as a friend.  Good-by dear friend,  may the road rise-up to meet you.  God Bless.    John & Marilyn Keen

Uncle Mike I hope you found my Mom and  Dad up in heaven and that you all are having some big belly laughs.   Maybe playing some baseball in heaven's backyard with my Mom  or in heaven's living room watching the  2008 NCAA national championship KU v Memphis  on a continuous loop  with my Dad . 
Uncle Mike thank you so very much for all the great memories growing up and beyond. Thank you for loving my Mom - cause she sure loved you.  Thank you for always making me giggle.   I can hear your voice echoing in my head  - "well hello Jenny"  whenever I saw you.   Thank you for talking with me and making me feel welcome wherever I visited you at Uncle Cy's my Mom's or wherever you were "holding court"
 You had the  ability to fill the largest room with your presence.  I so admired your charismatic personality and the fact that everyone just loved you. You will be profoundly missed by so many.
The last text you sent me a couple of weeks ago ended with rock chalk  Jayhawks.  In your memory Kevin and I will root extra hard for your Jayhawks this year and beyond.

Don and I have known ( and loved) Mike for all our married life.  His personality is sorely missed already. Life won’t be the same without Mike Perkins!

I knew Mike from St. Ann's Grade School, Rockhurst High School, Kansas University, and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.  I live in California after the Navy brought me out here in 1970, but I never missed an opportunity to spend time with Mike, wherever he was holding court, whenever I returned to Kansas City.

I met Cy in high school. We were introduced by my dear friend, Anita Royer, and we had a friendship that lasted almost sixty years.  I was his date to the Phi Psi Shipwreck party at KU in 1965.  He was always a gentleman and the best storyteller ever.  We spent many Friday afternoons together at the Tavern in the Village, and more recently at our monthly breakfast at Cozy's Cafe.  I will miss him and his great smile.  Great memories will stay with me forever. Rest in peace dear friend.

Many of my best memories were with or near Mike, the Mayor of Westport.  And there are hundreds of others that can say the same thing.  

Such a loveable guy.  Glad I knew him.

Mike was the best example I've ever known of gregarious good humor.  He brought a smile to my face every time I was in his presence and he'll be sadly missed by everyone who ever knew him.



We've lost a great story teller!
I have such fun memories of Mike during our high school years and at KU. He could make me laugh hysterically.
