Mary Lou lived a long life (91 years) and was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her faith was at the core of who she was and everything she did. Known for her caring nature and her devotion to her family and friends, Mary Lou was a role model for her honesty and integrity.
Mary Lou joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on April 4, 1976. She served in many capacities including a senior mission to Portland, Oregon. For 4 years she taught the Gospel Essentials class. One of her more challenging roles was serving as Relief Society President to the Riverview ward. Very few of the people spoke English. They came from a variety of countries. using picture boards, among other things, she was able to get her messages out to them. Many of them have continued to stay in touch with her.
During September, 2014, she entered a Nursing Home (due to accelerating Dementia) where she stayed until the last 5 days of her life when she entered a hospital. She passed away December 21, 2018.
Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Fredrick Bruce Reed and David (Diane) Reed, his grandchildren: Robert, Kenneth and Susan and his 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Jack (Ruth) Reed.
Funeral Services will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. Viewing will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. with the service following at 3:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery located at 701 North 94 Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
