Mary Pappas, 58, Independence, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 25, 2020 surrounded by family. Visitation is 9am, Saturday, May 30th, 2020 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 10010 E. 40 Hwy, Indep.; Mass of Christian Burial will start at 10am, followed by graveside services in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Mary was born January 2nd, 1962 to Joseph and Mary Bogacz of Independence and was a lifelong resident. She attended school at Nativity of Mary and graduated from Van Horn High School. She then started a lifelong career in the Insurance field. At Nativity, she taught first Communion and CCD classes, helped with maintenance of the grounds of the parish and school. Mary enjoyed helping with fish fry events, baking cinnamon bread and other parish functions. She also enjoyed making flower arrangements, interior decorating and gardening. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them; especially loving her role as Nonnie.
Mary is survived by her husband of 35 years Phillip (Jim) Pappas of the home; daughter Tiffany Johnson (Ryan) of Florida, and son Mitchell Pappas (Laura) of Blue Springs; and 5 grandchildren, Quentin Johnson, Weston, Brayden, Camden, and Addisyn Pappas. She is also survived by 6 siblings Tom Bogacz (Heather), Theresa DeHart (Matt), Fran Love, Anthony Bogacz, Mitch Bogacz (Carol) and Bernard Bogacz (Lisa); sisters-in-law Valerie Chamber (Steve), Elanor Gonzalez (Ray) and brother-in-law Nicholas Pappas (Carol), as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Bogacz.
