Mary was born on October 23, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Frank and Ann (Ford) Harrigan. Mary is survived by her eight children: Howett Maxwell, Ann Badger, Leah Henderson, James Maxwell, John Maxwell, Mary Castro, Barbara Wiltermood and George Maxwell. She also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She moved with her husband and their growing family to a new house in Grandview, Missouri in 1967 and she lived there until moving to Foxwood Springs at the beginning of 2016.
Having grown up during the depression, she was frugal, could really stretch a dollar and was very adept at providing for her large family on a tight budget. A characteristic she instilled in her children. She was a quiet woman but would never hesitate to speak her mind if she disagreed with anything. You lived by her rules because she was in charge. Mary loved to go shopping every Saturday with her daughters whether she bought anything or not. Everyone knew Saturday was Mom’s shopping day. As a young woman she loved to dance and would go to the local USO. Later, she and her husband Jim joined a square dance group and would sometimes travel to other groups or cities for square dance conventions. Besides shopping and dancing, she enjoyed bowling, reading, and caring for her flowers. She enjoyed being around family especially during the holidays. She will be deeply missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Maxwell, sister, Rose Worsley, and brothers, John and George Harrigan.
