Mary Jones was born to Lawrence and Lula Mae Wilson in Colorado Springs, CO on May 14, 1937 where she lived until age nine. Mary spent her early days playing with neighborhood friends which she continued throughout her life filled with many deep, long-lived friendships. She spent her early years near Seneca, MO before moving to Kansas City, MO where she got a job at Commerce Bank as an elevator operator. It was there she met Jerry Jones, her husband of 57 years. Mary went on to own and operate her own catering business for 38 years, but her spirit of hospitality continued to cater to family and friends well after retirement.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, brothers Lawrence Wilson and Robert Wilson, and sisters, Evelyn McDonald and Melva Wilson. She is survived by three children, Alan Jones, Judy Myers, and Valerie Mathis, and their spouses, all of Raymore, MO. Mary also leaves behind her legacy in eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one Jazzy dog. Her sometimes stubborn, yet generous soul, love for bingo, Christmas spirit, and green thumb persevered until the end. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, until we meet again.
Mary’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. The family will greet family and friends starting at 10:00 AM with a service and burial to follow at 10:30 AM.
