Mary "Alberta" Shirley

Mary “Alberta” Shirley, 98, of Leawood, KS, passed away on April 14, 2017. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 26, from 6-8pm at McGilley State Line Chapel, KCMO. The Rosary will be prayed at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, April 27, at 10am at Curé of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood. Burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, MO.

Alberta was born on February 27, 1919, in Kansas City, MO. She attended Westport High School. In 1944 she married Thomas O. Shirley, Sr. She worked at Hallmark, owned an employment agency, and was active in church and schools. She was president of St. Ann’s Guild, Leawood Women’s Club, Curé of Ars Women’s Club, PTO and Young at Heart Club.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O. Shirley, Sr., and her son, Thomas O. Shirley, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Shirley Maher; her son-in-law, Peter S. Maher; and her granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Maher.
