Martin E. “Marty” Fessler, 98, of Independence, MO passed away on February 27, 2011 at Liberty Terrace Care Center. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 from 6-8pm with rosary at 6pm at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial at 11am on Thursday at Nativity Church, 10010 E. 40HWY Indep., MO. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Marty was born on November 5, 1912 in Wien, MO to Edward and Theresa Fessler. He was a member as well as an usher for Nativity. Marty was a WWII Army Veteran. He retired from the Bendix Corp. as a machinist. Marty was a member of the American Legion Post 21, where he was known as a good pool player and considered it his home away from home. Marty was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Edith and a son-in-law, Robert Gillespie. He is survived by daughters, Marta Gillespie, Ruth Downing (Raymond) and Phyllis Sarratt all of Liberty, MO; brother, Bud Fessler (Irene); sister-in-law, Juanita Wilson (David); grandchildren, Sandra Sarratt, Jackie Riley (Chris), Angie Downing, Kody Downing and Kenny Gillespie (Amanda) and great-grandsons, Harrison Downing and Robert Gillespie.
