Manuel "Manny" Thomas Martinez, 86, from Kansas City, Mo, born in St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones. Born on November 13, 1938, Manuel lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to his family and heritage.
Manuel proudly served his country in the United States Navy from September 1956 to October 1959, earning an honorable discharge. Following his military service, he built a successful career with General Motors in Kansas City, Kansas, where he eventually retired.
Manuel was a man of simple joys and deep passions. He loved celebrating life with his beloved wife of 64 years, Alexandra "Sandra" Martinez, and their large, loving family. He was a devoted father to his six children—Michael (Amber), Anthony (Margaret), Catherine, Stephanie (David) Patricia, and Michelle (Michael) - and a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Manuel cherished his Mexican heritage, often sharing its beauty through stories, traditions, and the music he loved. He was an enthusiastic barbecuer, a skilled fisherman, a graceful dancer, and an adventurer who enjoyed family trips. Country music often filled his days, a soundtrack to his warm, lively spirit.
Manuel’s legacy is one of love, strength, and celebration. His dedication to his family and zest for life left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
Manuel is preceded in death by his sisters Juanita Rowland and Frances Alexander.
Visitation will be at 3 pm, service at 4 pm, Thursday, December 12th at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City, Mo.
