The enlightened insight that guided Lou's life was: "beauty is the quest for integrity." Throughout Lou's quest, he kept no casual acquaintances; only best friends, brothers, and sisters. In Lou's symphony, he played no half-steps; only whole notes, leaps of faith to the next stanza, and sacred appreciation for the rests in between. And in Lou's daily routine, he took no half-filled cups of coffee; it was always only the very best, filled right to the brim, so the liquid could splash carefreely over the sides as it journeyed to the table, because anything less was too small for him. Oh, what a quest.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.mtmoriah.net for the Newman family.
For those of you who have inquired about a charity or cause to donate to, one of Lou’s passions was the importance of education. To that end, in retirement he volunteered for the JCAE (Johnson County Adult Education) program, tutoring students in Math and in English as they worked toward earning their GED’s. He often reflected on the financial struggles that so many students faced, and was exploring avenues for helping when covid brought everything to a halt.
The “JCAE Emergency Assistance Scholarship” helps GED students facing extraordinary hardships to stay in the program. These funds serve a variety of needs not met by other resources, such as the minimal tuition for the program, cost for GED exams, and short-term childcare or transportation assistance.
