Linda Blythe Barrett, 80, of Independence, Missouri passed away peacefully July 11, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am, Monday August 2, 2021 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
Linda was born January 12, 1941 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late William and Verla (Swisher) McCubbin. She graduated from Central High School in her hometown, then earned her nursing degree from Metropolitan Community College while working full time and raising four children on her own. She enjoyed a fulfilling nursing career at St. Luke’s Hospital. Linda was a devoted member of Nativity Church giving much of her time to parishioners and the congregation.
She loved singing and playing bells with the church choir, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Linda met the love of her life, Robert Barrett, at church over 30 years ago. The story is Bob spotted her in a pew, noticed her floral dress, and promptly asked her out. The two of them would live a happy, beautiful, and fulfilled life together. Linda was a lover of God’s natural world with a special appreciation for animals and gardening. She dedicated countless hours - rain, snow or shine - caring for area feral cats and facilitating animal adoptions. Together with her husband they also nurtured their own beloved feline family in their home.
Our mom showed her true devotion to her family by bravely facing her own passing and in doing so, selflessly helped prepare us for her transition. Linda always went out of her way to help others and will be remembered for her loving devotion. She was our Superhero!!!
Linda was also preceded in death by Parents: Verlla and William McCubbin, Sister: Debbie McCubbin, and Sister-in-law: Betty McCubbin.
She is survived by her Husband: Bob Barrett, Brother: Jim McCubbin, Children: Viktoria Gaw, Greggory Gaw, Christopher Gaw and Brandon Gaw and their families including 6 Grandchildren and a Great Granddaughter on the way.
