Lee William Martin

Lee William Martin, of Kansas City, Missouri, went to be with our Lord at the age of 90 years on Tuesday, October 31, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hortense Winona Leiser and Robert Frank Martin and grand-daughter Jamie Ann Martin. He is survived by brothers: Gene Robert Martin and Herbert Wayne Martin; his children: Dayna Marie Martin, Michael Lee Martin, Marianna Leigh Martin Sockrider, Craig Robert Martin, and Brian Konstu Martin; his grandchildren: Matthew Dean McDonald, Martin Dion Luke McDonald, Laurie Michelle Martin, Jodie Lynn Martin, Rachel Eileen Martin Eikenberry, Kyle Christian Martin, Adam Thomas Martin, and Laura Leigh Sockrider. He has nine great-grandchildren. Lee was born September 25, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Paseo High School. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in Business Administration. The Martin Family received the UMKC Family Legacy Award in 2001. He worked for the United States Postal Service retiring as the District Safety Manager after 35 years. He was president of the Greater Kansas City chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He also was one of the first employees of H&R Block and worked for Block for more than 40 years beginning in 1959. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. In 1946, Lee married Bettie J. Dyke. During their 7-year marriage they had two children, Dayna and Michael. He married Janet Joan Hanninen on August 2, 1957. They celebrated 60 years of marriage and had three children, Marianna, Craig and Brian. They were active members of the Central United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. One of their most memorable travels was to the Holy Land with the Mather Sunday School class. They loved sitting on the porch of their Brookside area home. A public memorial service and reception celebrating Lee’s life will be held at 1:30 pm, November 3, 2017 at Central United Methodist Church at 5144 Oak. Kansas City, MO. A private family graveside gathering will be on Saturday. Donations can be given to Central Methodist Church in his honor.
