He was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, and as such, was a lifelong, devout fan of the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. There is nothing he loved more than talking sports or even better, going to a game with family and friends. And Kevan had many friends because he had the gift of wanting to talk to everybody. He didn’t know who a stranger was. If you weren’t a friend, he just didn’t get to you yet.
Kevan attended Ruskin High School and shortly afterward, joined the Air Force Reserve. When his country needed him, Kevan answered the call, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also served as a munitions systems craftsman and security police augmentee at Whiteman Air Force Base. His military career is part of a long and proud family history, following the footsteps of his dad and many other family members who wore the uniform.
Kevan was quite proud of his military career and brothers and sisters he served with, and for his career with the Social Security Administration. There are many people today who know about their benefits because Kevan never understood the word, “stranger,” and wanted to help people wherever he could.
He is survived by his twin sister, Margaret Booth, and his younger sister, Ruth Ann Kunich; his brothers-in-law, Gary Kunich and Shane Sullins; his beloved Aunt Becky Kennedy and cousin, Jim Kennedy; his nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Fugate and Annie Dodson; Ashlie Verbergt; and Stephen Kunich, as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends (who are also extended family members) throughout the United States.
Kevan was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mary Louise; his nephew, Devin Kunich; and his Uncles Glenn, Tom, Michael and Pat Kennedy. No doubt, he was greeted at Heaven’s door by many family members and his beloved cat, who is sitting in his lap right now.
We will remember Kevan with a visitation from 6-8pm on Tuesday, July 23 at McGilley & Sheil Chapel followed by a service at 8pm. Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 24 at Leavenworth National, 150 Muncie Rd. Leavenworth, KS 66048. Please join the family after services are completed at the cemetery for a pay as you go lunch to continue the celebration of Kevan's life.
When the Royals hit a homerun or the Chiefs score a touchdown, think of Kevan, and in his memory, make a friend of a stranger today. ***Family requests that you wear your favorite sports jersey to Kevan's visitation. ***
