Papa’s obituary John “Jack” Philip Fletcher, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Sunday, November 27, 2016. Services will be Friday December 2, 2016 at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. The Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Graveside services to follow. Jack was born February 4, 1930 in Pleasanton, Kansas. He graduated from KU and was a lifelong Jayhawk fan, avid sports enthusiast and loved Jazz music. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. Jack was a State Farm Insurance Agent for 37 years before retiring in June 1995. He was a Master Gardener winning numerous horticulture awards. Also, he was a proud member of Jackson County Rose Society and several other clubs. Jack enjoyed volunteering alongside his wife, Betty, at Powell Gardens for many years. He was affectionately known as the “Prince of Powell Gardens”. Jack had an infectious personality that brought joy and spread smiles across all of the faces he met. He was always ready to share a joke, smile, hug, or his beautiful flowers. Through every up and down of life, he faced it with gratitude and love towards all those around him. His positive outlook and love for living will always be missed. Jack is preceded in death by his parents John W. and Susanna B. Fletcher, brothers Maurice and Paul Fletcher, and sister, Mary Sue (Fletcher) Shorter. He is survived by his wife, Betty Fletcher, son, Phil Fletcher (Toni), daughter, Jan Johnson (Terry), grandchildren, Kristin and Todd Fletcher ( Lauren Brady ), Tyler (Alissa) and Kelsey Johnson ( Eric Van Fleet ), and great-grandson Zane Johnson. Also, he is survived by Sister-in-laws Geneva Johnson and Jean Ann Smith. The family would like to thank the staff at Parkway Senior Living and Crossroads Hospice for their special care.
