She married the love of her life, Lawrence Thomas Rouen, Jr. on April 22, 1950. To this union were born ten children. She was an amazing homemaker, a professional child wrangler, running a well-tuned, tight ship. Never one to complain, her expert advice was to “offer it up”. She enjoyed spending time at her vacation home at the Lake of the Ozarks and over the years travelling with her husband, family, and friends to Hawaii, Edisto, Panama, Aruba, and Ireland.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, great granddaughter Allison Fisher, and her brother Jerry Smith. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lawrence Rouen, and children Larry Rouen (Patty), Mike Rouen (Toni), Pat Rouen (Rita), Rob Rouen (Mary Lou), Jane Watters (Greg), Mary Young (Pete), Maureen Berger (Hal), Annette Barry (Leo), Tim Rouen (Sun), and Karen Doggendorf (Dan), 30 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and her brother Tom Smith (Rita). She will be forever loved and missed by all.
