Jerry Lee Eckerman, 77, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 11th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3105 West 135th Street, Leawood, KS, 66224, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., burial following in Aubry Cemetery, Stilwell, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
Jerry served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 16 years in Waterloo, Iowa. He founded and operated Eckerman Sod Service for 20 years and later was a bus driver for the Blue Valley School District and was affectionately known as “Grandpa Jerry.” Jerry married the love of his life, Doris.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Doris of 57 years; son, Scott; and daughter, Kelly. He also leaves his brother, Lindsey; his sister, Patricia Peckham; and his only two grandchildren, whom he adored, Aubrey and Sadie.
