Jim Sheets died Friday, December 21, 2018 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Kansas City, MO, on March 5, 1931. He was the oldest of four children, an Eagle Scout in the tribe of Mic-O-Say, a graduate of Northeast High School, and one of the first to receive a degree in American Humanics from Missouri Valley College. He married JoAnne Geabhart on July 12, 1952. After serving in the Army, he began his career at Hallmark Cards. He and his family relocated to Lawrence, KS, in 1971, where he was the production control manager at the Hallmark plant until his retirement. He was active in Sertoma, volunteered at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, and a member of the First Christian Church. He enjoyed traveling and golf, but he loved his family and friends more than anything.
He is survived by his two sons, Dennis Sheets, Lawrence, KS; Jeff (Lindy) Sheets, Gladstone, MO; three siblings, Ralph (Sandie) Sheets, Independence, MO; Gary Sheets, Lee’s Summit, MO; Janice Hohenberg, Independence, MO; two granddaughters, Tiffany Sheets, Gladstone, MO; Katie (Steve) Blakley, Platte City, MO; and three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Madison and Tyler. He also loved many nieces and nephews and their families.
A service will be held on Saturday, December 29th, Visitation 9:00 a.m., "Celebration of Life" 10:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133
The family suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
