James F. (Jim) Perry, 76, Lee’s Summit, MO, died April 21, 2020, at home surrounded by family, after several years of fighting lung cancer, Parkinson’s, and relapsing polychondritis. He attended Central Missouri State University where he earned his BSEd, MS and Education Specialist degrees in Industrial Arts and Technology. He served as a drill instructor in the US Army during the Viet Nam conflict. Mr. Perry taught for one year in the Hickman Mills School District and followed that with 29 years at Grandview High School teaching industrial arts and driver education. He was a part time teacher and a continuing education coordinator for Grandview and Metropolitan Junior College for 26 years. He attended the Kansas City Police Academy and served the City of Lee’s Summit as a reserve police officer for 22 years. He served as a state and local officer with The Christian Motorcyclist’s Association for several years. Jim was a former member of First Baptist Church of Raytown and a current member of Abundant Life in Lee’s Summit and was a deacon at both churches. He shared the Gospel and his expertise in construction through 13 mission trips.
Jim is survived by his wife Janice (Jan) of almost 52 years, 3 children: Julie Peaden and husband Troy, Destin, FL, Jeff Perry and wife Amy, Lee’s Summit, Jill Parrish and husband Efrem Williams, Lee’s Summit, 7 grandchildren; Braden, Brooke, Grant, Gage, Jake, Tyler, and Emma, and one brother, William E. COVID-19 will not prevent us from sharing with one another the joy and sorrow of Jim Perry’s passing. Keeping on with Jim’s creativity and love for all things hunting and fishing we will be having a “Shotgun Visitation.” Please join us April 23, 2020 from 5:00-7:00pm at 2920 SW 16th Street, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081. “Troll” on by and offer your condolences. We will have some fun things set up in the driveway. The family will be “wading” to offer waves, smiles and tears from a safe social distance. Please feel free to bring cards as we can “net” them from a safe distance.
A Celebration of Life will be held when we get the all clear from our government officials. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s honor to Abundant Life Food Pantry, 414 SW Persels Road, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081.
Thank you so much for your love and support during this time.
