Jim was one of the best. He never met a stranger. Jim had a way of putting a smile on the face of anyone he had any personal contact with. His congeniality and charm was so refreshing because he was so genuine. We will miss him very much.


Jim, I have been praying for you, Theresa, and your extended family, and I will continue to do just that.  And I cherish knowing you and your families.  I also know you will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace with God.

Jim was my mentor in my early days of the 4th Degree and the Honor Guard. Whenever we had to figure out our way as we went along, he'd say, "Semper Fi, improvise!" I always considered him a dear friend, especially after he moved into our parish, St. Thomas More. He tried to remain active with the Knights, but by then his health was preventing many activities. He was a true gentleman and Brother Sir Knight, who will be sorely missed.

I only knew Jimmy through my father Ken Winkler. I met him after my dad had already had a stroke and could no longer drive, so I took him to the retirees luncheons at the old Gold Buffet now known as Finnigans! Jimmy always welcomed me as one of them and was always so great to my dad as he battled multiple dementia.  He always had a smile and a joke, not always good ones but you had to laugh because they really were funny! We lost my dad in May 2014, he still kept in touch with mom (Shirle Winkler ) until recently, which she greatly appreciates! Rest now Jim, you have earned it! Prayers for the family from mom and me!

Peggy and Les and family, Fred and I want you to know we are praying for comfort and peace for all of you.  I’ll never forget meeting your Dad, Peggy, at St. Joseph Med Center when Mom was there for something. He was the kindest most articulate conversational man. He made Mom feel so comfortable and he was so gentle with her.  I know this will be one of your hardest saddest things to live through. God will see you through.  Our love to you all❣️ Fred and Jan

Jim worked my father Bob Meyer who was in charge of Katy Transportation from 1954 until 1974. I too worked for the Katy during college and got to know Jim. He was a positive force in the sales office and supported  my father 100%.
He was kind and warm to all of us that knew him. His word was his bond and was highly respected. He treated us youngsters like his sons. Even though I haven’t seen him in years I will miss him and all of the things he accomplished. His strongest trait was his loyalty to his friends and to the Katy family. God bless him.

I will forever remember Jim’s comforting presence at the entrance of St Joe. After a serious illness with years of follow up visits, Jim was there with his friendly greeting. Thank you Jim for comfort you never knew you gave. If you did that for me, imagine the hundreds of patients and visitors who felt the same. You were a sweetheart to our Mom who had countless doctor visits...she always said, “ I wonder if we will get to see Peggy’s Dad..I hope so.” You were there the many OB visits our daughter had, even the day she delivered our beautiful Bo. Most of all Jim, thank you for your very special daughter, Peggy.  She is our dear friend, sister, loving wife to our brother Les, wonderful Mom to four beautiful daughters and their families, and tender, never failing, caretaker to our Mom. She has your same comforting smile. You were surely blessed with a life well lived.

Jim was a great man.  His kindness, gentleness, and wit were unsurpassed. He had a knack for putting people at ease. I haven’t seen Jim for many years, but I will never forget his amazing ability to make you feel like family. I am blessed to have known him.

Our papas were so similar in their beliefs....always faithful to family and God.  They volunteered for so many of the same things and were in the Knights of Columbus together.   I will never ever forget the many July 4th parades they both participated in with their grandchildren and greats.  He will be missed but what great memories  you have. xoxoxo jan melchior weber

I would never presume to call him and his wife anything other than Mr. and Mrs. Dishman. Too many great memories and too much respect to address them any other way. I spent a lot of time at the Dishman house and always felt welcome. He's a real gentleman and someone who's demeanor should be emulated. That laugh-oh man that laugh- how you could not laugh with him. Deepest condolences to all the family. Sincerest thoughts and good vibes to all.

I'm a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus, post # 527. Mr. Cushman sponsored me. He taught me about giving back to my community through service to others.  He was a nice man, he was my friend. I will miss him.   To his family I'm the Public Safety Officer at St. Joseph Medical Center, we spoke often when Jim came in for treatments. Fr. Bernard J. Donnelly Assembly has lost a superb Sir Knight, Former Commander, and Past Faithful, Navigator. A true supporter of the Patriotic Degree and a wonderful gentleman. May the angels lead you into paradise.
