Olivet Cemetery immediately following.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James P. Dishman and Vida L. Dishman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Theresa (Maloney) Dishman, whom he married in 1949; their children: Mary (Joel) Johnson, Michael (Geri) Dishman, Peggy (Leslie) Eidson, Jan (George) Morgan, Joan (Bobby) Linville, James P. (Jana) Dishman; sister-in-law, Helen Forte; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Jim attended school at Guardian Angels and Rockhurst High School. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served for two and a half years. Jim continued his support for veterans throughout his life. After his time in the Navy, he joined the Katy Railroad where he worked for over 30 years.
Jim, a devoted Catholic, was a member of Christ the King for over 60 years where he served as a lay minister and cantor. He was a member of St. Thomas More for the last seven years. Jim was also a member of the Knights of Columbus serving as a Grand Knight, a former guard of the 4th degree, and “Slow Poke” the clown. He also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital as an ambassador for over 25 years.
A gifted showman, Jim was always making others laugh and helping however he could. He loved God, his family, his country and all people. He was always there for others through good and bad times. Rest in peace Dad, we love you and will miss you.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Thomas More Church or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care.
“Enjoy your ride.”
Love,
Jim
