Jim was born in his grandmother’s parlor in Cole Camp, Missouri on October 8, 1941. He always said a star shown over the house that night. Jim worked for General Motors, was a restaurant/lounge manager in Platte City, Missouri and a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways from September 1, 1976 until his retirement June 29, 2002. After his retirement from Consolidated Freightways his wife, Brenda, convinced him to become part of the mission of Beautiful Savior Home, a non-profit Christian based long term care facility where she was also employed. Jim loved the people at Beautiful Savior. He and his wife together carrying out God’s mission until the Lord took him home.
Jim married Brenda on April 11, 1987. Jim had a daughter Debbie and a son Brian. He had three grandchildren, Ryan, Jessica and Sydney. A sister Janice Spaulding, a brother John William “Bill” Buford. He was excited and blessed to become acquainted with two other brothers Rudy Broyles and Roger Broyles several years ago. Jim was blessed with many nieces and nephews.
Jim was passionate about his country and did not back away from discussing his politics. He posted his opinions daily on Facebook. He enlisted in the Army February 18, 1959 and served until he was honorably discharged March 28, 1962.
He loved his motorcycles. He wanted to be able to ride his Harley one more time but it was not to be. The last couple of years he would sit on his deck, watch the wild life and listen to the passing motorcycles longing to be able to ride his.
Jim had a quick wit and a kind and compassionate spirit. He made friends everywhere he went. People would always remember Jim.
Jim was preceded in death by his father John, his mother Ruth, his sister Janice and his grandson Ryan. He is survived by his wife Brenda, his children Debbie and Brian, his grandchildren Jessica and Sydney, his brother Bill Buford and sister-in-law Mary Buford, their children and grandchildren, his brothers Rudy Broyles and Roger Broyles and their wives, children and grandchildren, his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 11, 2019, Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. A Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 6:00pm followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00pm. A reception will follow at the funeral home.
