Iris was born October 12, 1934, in Kansas City, MO to Kenneth and Marie Haynes. After the birth of her sister Carolyn, the family moved to Blue Mound, KS, where she spent her adolescent and teenage years. After graduating from Blue Mound High School, she followed her passion for city life and returned to Kansas City. She held many interesting jobs including Cokesbury Publishing and a receptionist at Unitog Uniform Company under then Kansas City Sports Commissioner Dutton Brookfield. In the late 60s, she was employed as a switchboard operator for Swanson’s on the Country Club Plaza. It was there she met many iconic designers who would influence and fuel her passion for fashion. During this time, she met the love of her life, Loriano Rossi, through a mutual friend. Married on Valentine’s Day, they soon moved to Raytown where they had their greatest accomplishment, their daughter Sofia Rossi. After 22 years in Raytown, Iris and Loriano retired in Overland Park, KS.
Iris’ faith and love for her family and friends gave her the courage to fight against many hardships. She leaves a final legacy for a life well-lived. The world lost a warm and loving person who made a special difference every day to everyone. She lived an exemplary life as a devoted wife and loving mother. Elegant, fashionable, respectful, humorous, and incredibly sweet, are just a few words to describe this amazing woman.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Loriano Rossi, and her mother and father Marie and Kenneth Haynes.
Survivors include her devoted daughter, Sofia Rossi; sister, Carolyn Lowry; sisters-in-law, Giorgetta (Loretta) Rossi and Lia Biscari; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation and funeral service will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133, on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020. Visitation starts at 9:00 AM followed by a 10:00 AM Celebration of Life service. Entombment proceeds at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum.
