Visitation will be from 7:00-9:00 PM, with Rosary and the Sharing of Stories at 7:30 PM, on Friday, June 9th at St Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64116. The Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 AM Saturday, June 10th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City, MO with a luncheon following at the parish. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the Nottingham Food Pantry at St. Patrick Parish.
Iona was born November 8, 1937 to Joseph and Barbara (Dudenhoeffer) Thoenen in Frankenstein, MO. She graduated from Fatima High School in Westphalia, MO. Iona was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kansas City since 1965 where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society, Nottingham Food Pantry, and the REACH program. With her husband, Charles, she was also active in Engaged Encounter. Iona was a stay at home Mom. She enjoyed her flower gardens and cooking for her family. Iona was an expert seamstress, pie maker, crossword puzzle solver, and also enjoyed reading Agatha Christie mysteries and the Bible.
In addition to her parents, Iona was preceded in death by sister, Mary Ann (Eddie) Gilbert, brothers, Alfred (Evelyn) Thoenen, Joseph (Evelyn) Thoenen, Lee (Bernita) Thoenen, and Lawrence Thoenen; sister-in-law, Earline Lamb, Sr. Jane Marie Lamb, and Diane Lamb; brothers-in-law, Bill (Jean) Lamb, Dale (Aletha) Lamb, Wilfred Brandt, Paul (Lucy) Lamb, Melvin Lamb and James Lamb.
Iona is survived by her husband of 66 years, Charles; children, Mary Beth Lamb, Kansas City, MO, Ruth Farkas, Yangon, Myanmar, Stephen Lamb, Royse City, TX, Janet and Phil Maruco, Gladstone, MO, Cathy Lamb, Kansas City, MO, Charlie and Christina Lamb, Olathe, KS and Chris and Marjorie Lamb, Kansas City, MO; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Iona is also survived by her sister, Josephine Lamb, Chamois, MO; sister-in law, Margaret Ann Thoenen, Jefferson City, MO, Dorothy Lamb, Jefferson City, MO, Esther Brandt, Kansas City, MO, Sr. Jamesine Lamb and Sr. Mary Evelyn Lamb, both of Springfield, IL; and brother-in-law, Bob Lamb, Los Alamos, NM.
