Hugh was born in Kansas City, MO on April 12, 1926 to Martha Jane (Roby) and Albert Henry Martin. He was a member of the 1944 graduating class of North Kansas City High School.
Hugh worked for DART Trucking Company manufacturing commercial vehicles, from which he retired in the 1980s. After his retirement, Hugh kept himself busy with different jobs such as working at a hardware store and making deliveries for a local pharmacy.
Hugh is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 57 years, Clara Belle (Childers) Martin; and daughter, Delores Jane Martin.
He leaves behind his son, Hugh E. Martin II; daughter, Deborah J. Kruse; grandchildren, Laura Ridge, Marie Strohl, Daniel Ridge, Marcia Maher, Jessica Scott, and Jennifer Martin; seven great-grandchildren; and his second wife, Patricia E. Jones; to cherish his memory.
Hugh will be remembered through many memories and stories; many of which he created literally with his hands. He was very talented as a builder, carpenter, and creator; from amazing home projects, renovations to the church, landscaping, and gifts to his family. He loved music, history, great food, and was a walking knowledge base to rival any lifetime. Never knowing a stranger, he loved people. His memory and spirit will be cherished forever.
Due to the current restrictions on public gatherings, Hugh will be laid to rest privately in East Slope Cemetery in Riverside, MO.
