Glenn Christopher Edwards, electrician, handyman, fisherman, loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in his home. He was 59 years young. His favorite moments were spending time with his family especially his children and grandchildren.
He was born October 24, 1961 in Newark, New Jersey. He was adopted by loving parents Barbara Ward and Richard Edwards. When asked if he wanted a sister or brother he said he wanted a “red one.” He chose his sister, Jeanine, because she was the only one not crying and at four years old he carried her out to his parents. The two of them had a strong bond and he protected her at all times.
As a child, he loved Fishers Island, NY, baseball and dogs. He played short stop and he constantly practiced. Most nights, he requested his dad throw balls with him until both were tired. He always had a talent for the game and was always a starter on his teams. He played in Little League, then the Babe Ruth League and continued to play in high school where in both Jr. and Sr. year, his team went to State.
He got a scholarship to William Paterson College in NJ for playing baseball and then changed plans and moved to NY where he learned many trades that he would master throughout his life. At that point he joined the Navy and did rigorous Navy Seal training. Later he was assigned to a P3 squadron to become an Aviation Ordnanceman. During his time he received many awards for his aerial photography and he traveled to numerous places around the world. He later worked as a Union Electrician and handyman as he started his family.
He enjoyed fishing, lobstering, hunting, fixing things around the house, mowing, and speaking to others. He loved taking care of his property and being outside in nature. He loved animals, especially German Shepherds, even breeding them for a short time. He was like the animal whisperer, all animals loved him. He had enormous love for baseball and watching his son play, even coaching some of his teams. His son’s team made it to state and he couldn’t of been more proud. He had four daughters but that didn’t stop him from teaching them how to play his favorite game. He would throw what felt like 100 mph balls at his kids for hours until they were all sore and tired.
He watched 3 children graduate college and his other two start families. Anyone that knew him, knew about his children. He always had something to brag about. He had a kind soul and an infectious smile that was contagious to anyone near him. He had a way about him that made everyone feel welcome and he just loved getting to know people. He always had a story to tell. He would talk your ears off if you’d let him. He was a ridiculously funny, charming, and down to earth man who any one was lucky to call a friend.
He had the biggest heart around and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, even if it was the only thing he had. His latest venture was going to help the families who had damaged or lost homes from the hurricane and freeze in Texas and Louisiana this year. That was the kind of man he was. Always a helping hand.
Taken way too soon, he leaves behind best friend and ex wife, Jan Rogan, daughters Ashley Edwards, Amanda Coffey, Donna Edwards, Erica Edwards and son Kyle Edwards. As well as his sister Jeanine Edwards and her kids, Jared and Annie, parents Barbara and Richard Edwards, grandchildren Jesse, Isabella and Jonah and sons in law Jeff Coffey and Apollo Sitting Up.
He will be extremely missed and never forgotten as his legacy will live on through his five children and grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Wednesday, June 9 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, June 10 at the funeral home. Interment in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
