Fred Groover, 88 of Overland Park, Kansas, passed from this life on January 28, 2020 at Leawood Gardens. Frederick Briton Groover was born October 26, 1931 to Alice Howard Groover and James Briton Groover in Lacoochee, Florida. He was preceded in death by his brother James Groover and sister Margaret Smith. He married the love of his life, Alice Marie Nelson, on March 8, 1953, in Waco, Texas. She preceded him in death on December 22, 2006.
He was most proud of his service to our country. He served in the United States Air Force from April 1951 to May 1955 and in the Naval Reserves from December 1963 until December 1967. After his military service, he went to work for Honeywell in the Aerospace division. He retired from Honeywell after 33 years of service. His “hobby” was raising and caring for bees, continuing a love he got from his father, James. At one point he had in excess of 300 beehives and sold the orange blossom honey to Sioux Bee Honey for many years.
He is survived by his son Frederick (Rick) Britain Groover Jr, (Brenda) and daughter Deborah Elizabeth Watson (Ed), five grandchildren, Frederick (Brit) Briton Groover III (Jamie), Erin Mankameyer (Brian), Anna Groover, Joshua Watson, Ashley Watson and six great grandchildren, Reese Mankameyer, Perrie Mankameyer, Tinley Brayfield, Lexton Ravaee, Kyla Ravaee and Joshua Watson Jr.
Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
