February 22, 1934 – December 20, 2021
Your wings were ready, but our hearts were not.
Filiberto Gutierrez of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021. He was born on February 22, 1934, in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico, to Gregorio and Bernardina (neé Medina) Gutierrez. The eldest of twelve children Filiberto held a special place in his mother’s heart. Filiberto was in integral part of his father and brothers’ migration to Kansas City, Missouri.
Filiberto met and married his wife Rosa in 1959, he worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad until his Retirement. A devoted Father, and family man he always took great pride in his home and land. He was an avid coin collector, loved to fish, work in the yard with his wife and was the best handy man his family could ever ask for. Normally found enjoying the outdoors with a quick salutation or conversation the warmth of his smile was transcendent. Nothing meant more to him than his Family he just loved how they lived in very close proximity and always looked forward to his annual trips to Mexico. Astonishingly at the age of 87 he was still very much active around the house working on projects, yardwork, picking pecans off his pecan tree or riding his tractor around his and his daughter’s yard. Filiberto may have been a man of few words but to his family and friends he was always a joy to be around, and he will remain in our hearts forever. He was beloved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed. Those he leaves behind should remember that it is not a goodbye but simply a see you later.
Filiberto is survived by his lovely wife, Rosa (neé Garcia) Gutierrez; his children, David Gutierrez, Antonio Gutierrez, Mary Lozano, and Regina Fries; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Esperanza Gutierrez de Delgadillo, Herlinda (Ismael) Gutierrez de Saldana, Humberto (Martha) Gutierrez, Maria de los Dolores Gutierrez Medina, Maria Teresa (Fontaine) Gutierrez de Chavez, Maria Gutierrez, Enrique (Graciela) Gutierrez, Hector Gutierrez, Alfonso Gutierrez, his sister-in-law Silvia Gutierrez and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents; his sister Evangelina Gutierrez; his brother Gregorio Gutierrez; his brother-in-law, Blas Delgadillo; and his sister-in-law Dolores Mendez.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1:30 PM on January 7, 2022 at McGilley Memorial Chapel – Midtown followed by burial at Forest Hill Cemetery.
